Genuine Live Chance As a $1m Country Championship Horse + Magic Millions Horse

Australian Bloodstock have purchased out of Melbourne, a 3yr old gelding who was a $340,000 yearling purchase.

Whateley has had 6 starts for 2 wins and a second and is on my ratings certainly up to city grade in NSW.

The way I see it is Whateley is a fairly low risk type of play given the purchase price and whilst he is not straight forward as a horse my background research suggests that by moving and changing his scenario and environment and training him in the country that he should appreciate that much more than his current situation. Whilst he is sound – the stable reports he doesn’t like the confined boxes and can be a keen going horse – hence they recommend change his scenery and send him to someone with a strong rider and that should make all the difference.

When I look at his ratings especially in his debut run and then his 2 wins – this horse on ability will win city races for us of that I've supremely confident. Like with most horses if we can make him happy, we could see a more consistent and improving horse and given his had just 6 runs his best is in front of him.

I genuinely believe if this can occur then we could have ourselves a country championship horse

The Country Championships is a popular racing series run by Racing NSW, designed to showcase and reward the talent of country-based horses, trainers, and owners across New South Wales. It culminates in a prestigious Final held during The Championships at Royal Randwick each April.

The series consists of qualifying heats held at various regional race clubs, each offering a spot in the $1,000,000 Final. Horses must be trained in designated Country or Provincial regions and meet eligibility criteria, ensuring that genuine country participants benefit from the concept.

The Country Championships is not only a pathway to elite-level prizemoney for country stables, but it also fosters community engagement, regional pride, and grassroots racing development—giving owners the chance to compete on Sydney’s biggest stage.

đź’° Prize Money & Qualification

  • Each regional heat has a $150,000 purse, with $76,250 to the winner
  • Top two in each heat earn a guaranteed berth in the Final.
  • Two additional Wild‑Card races — North and South — offer a second chance. They’re open to horses that:
    • Ran but didn’t qualify,
    • Were balloted out, or
    • Scratched under approved circumstances
  • Wild Cards also carry $150,000 and supply two extra Final spots

On top of this, the horse is also a Magic Millions Eligible Horse so the thoughts are, if we could qualify him for the Magic Millions Day that would also be a great option.
